When Robert Barksdale opened an insurance agency in Jackson in 1933, he brought to the job a unique passion for both the business and its customers. The Robert Barksdale Company, Inc. soon earned a reputation as one of Mississippi's most forward-thinking insurance providers. When Mr. Barksdale died in the early 1960's, his widow, Mae Barksdale, was determined that a family member should continue to be a part of the well-known company. Although she never held a job outside the home, Mae Barksdale reported to work the next day at 7 a.m. and served the company for the next 25 years finally retiring in 1987 at the age of 85. This same level of continuity and dedication to serving the firm's clients has helped Barksdale Bonding & Insurance maintain its position as one of the Southeast's leading insurance agencies for over 70 years.
